Troubleshooting procedure for ignition coil failure
The ignition coil mainly supplies ignition energy to the
ignition system of the engine. The failure rate of the coil itself is very low,
but the failure of the coil cannot be completely eliminated. When the ignition
coil fails, the ignition energy of the engine is insufficient, which may cause
the engine to idle and the operation is unstable. Deterioration and other
failures.
The ignition coil troubleshooting process is as follows:
Step 1 :
Set the ignition switch to "ON"
Step 2:
Unplug the ignition coil connector on the harness and use a multimeter to check
if there is a battery voltage of about 12V between the 3rd pin and the ground
wire on the connector.
If yes, please continue to the next step; if no, please check the line.
Step 3:
Unplug the ignition coil connector on the harness and use a multimeter to check
if the No. 1 pin on the connector and the 5# of the ECU are short-circuited or
open.
If yes, please check the line and ECU; if no, proceed to the next step.
Step 4:
Unplug the ignition coil connector on the harness and use a multimeter to check
if the 2nd pin on the connector and the 2# of the ECU are short-circuited or
open.
If yes, please check the line and ECU; if no, proceed to the next step.
Step 5:
Check if the primary coil resistance of the sensor is about 0.9Ω.
If yes, proceed to the next step; if not, replace the ignition coil.
Step 6:
Check if the secondary winding resistance of the sensor is about 14.5kΩ.
If yes, proceed to the next step; if not, replace the ignition coil.
Step 7:
Use an oscilloscope to check if the secondary ignition waveform of the high
voltage line of the ignition system is normal.
If yes then check other parts.
